Our Team

CP Energy is led by a group of energy industry veterans, with more than a century of combined experience. Greg Piper, Les Harding, Jim Crossen and Jackson Wise lead a best-in-class team, that has significant industry and market knowledge and long-standing relationships with producers, marketers, refiners and other stakeholders across the oil and gas supply chain. The CP Energy team has a proven track record of operating our marketing, transport and logistics business in a safe and reliable manner and our ongoing mission is to provide a comprehensive suite of midstream services to our customers to help them be successful.

Each CP Energy team member brings a diverse background to the company, having worked for major and independent oil and gas companies, midstream companies, public refinery companies, service companies and asset management and financial firms. Our goal is to build a premier midstream services firm, continually focused on creating value for our customers, by applying our experience, knowledge and capabilities. Working together, we source and evaluate opportunities, then work closely with our customers to implement them, providing exactly what the customer needs from our suite of services.  Being able to buy, sell and transport the commodity, combined with the ability to build, own and operate necessary physical infrastructure, allows CP Energy to do more for our customers.

Greg Piper

President and Chief Executive Officer

Greg joined CP Energy in October 2014 with more than 25 years of leadership, operational and business development experience in the energy industry. Prior to joining CP Energy, he served as CEO of Gavilon Energy, a private midstream energy company, where he led the energy group’s spin off from Gavilon Corp. and then led the sale of Gavilon Energy to NGL Energy Partners. Prior to his role as CEO of Gavilon Energy, he served as senior vice president of business development at Gavilon Corp., leading the company’s growth initiatives in both agriculture and midstream energy. He has also held senior positions at Acon Investments, Prisma Energy International, Chroma Oil & Gas, Mariner Energy and Enron Corp. He began his career as a petroleum engineer with EOG in the Rockies. Greg received his Bachelor of Science in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and an MBA from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas.

Les Harding

Chief Operating Officer

Les has been Chief Operating Officer (COO) at CP Energy since September 2014. Previously, Les spent 18 years with Valero Energy/Ultramar Diamond Shamrock in a variety of capacities including executive director of crude supply and trading, where he oversaw the crude trading, scheduling and lease acquisition groups responsible for supplying Valero’s Mid-Continent and Gulf of Mexico refining systems. He also held various positions in trading and marketing capacities with Scurlock Permian Corporation, Enertrade, Inc. and Champlin Petroleum Company/Union Pacific Resources. Les has more than 30 years of experience in the crude marketing and logistics industry since graduating from the University of Arkansas with a BBA in marketing and finance.

Jim Crossen

Senior Vice President, Crude Marketing & Logistics

Jim founded CP Energy, LLC in 1997 with fellow oil executive Bob Passmore. Prior to founding his own company, Jim spent 15 years with Koch Industries, where he served as vice president of the company’s Oklahoma division responsible for business development and crude oil purchasing. He began his career with Phillips 66 working as a crude oil representative in Oklahoma, Kansas, West Texas and the Texas Panhandle. Jim received his Bachelor degree in business from the College of the Ozarks.

Jackson Wise

Senior Vice President, Operations & Business Development

Jackson has more than 17 years of energy industry experience and has held positions in both energy and corporate finance. Prior to joining CP Energy, Jackson served as executive vice president of Permian Crude Transport LLC, a crude oil logistics business with operations located throughout the Permian Basin. From 2007 to 2014, he worked for Simmons & Company International, an energy-focused investment bank based in Houston. While at Simmons, Jackson focused his efforts on the midstream and downstream oil and gas sectors and advised on more than 70 transactions representing approximately $40 billion in aggregate value. Prior to Simmons, Jackson worked for BP North America and Enron Corporation. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Plan II Honors program and an MBA with honors from the McCombs School of Business.

Terry Bond

Vice President of Accounting and Controller

Terry has 20 years of accounting experience in financial services, nonprofit, manufacturing and energy services. Prior to joining CP Energy, Terry held the position of controller for CSI Compressco LP, a provider of compression services and equipment for natural gas and oil production. In addition to financial accounting responsibilities, he guided a significant ERP implementation, directed the accounting integration of Compressco’s acquisition of Compressor Systems, Inc. and served as a member of the company’s disclosure committee. Prior to CSI Compressco, he held positions at Baker Hughes drilling services and well completions. He also served as the controller for CASS Polymers, Inc., and assistant controller for Oklahoma Christian University. He began his accounting career as a staff accountant with MidFirst Bank. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees in management from Oklahoma State University and in accounting from the University of Central Oklahoma. Bond is a certified public accountant and chartered global management accountant.

Kyle J. Essmiller

Vice President, Administration

Kyle joined CP Energy in 2015 bringing more than 25 years of experience in the energy industry to the company.  Prior to joining CP Energy, he served as director of human resources for PostRock Energy and as employee relations manager for Chaparral Energy, both in Oklahoma City.  From 1995 to 2009, Kyle held various leadership and organizational development positions within the finance group at Chesapeake Energy Corporation.  He began his professional career in 1991 with Koch Industries in Wichita, Kansas.  Kyle holds a MBA in leadership and organizational development from Oklahoma Christian University and a Bachelor of Science in accounting and finance from Kansas State University.  He is certified as a senior professional in human resources (SPHR) and senior certified professional by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-SCP).
